Slash’s guitar solo at the beginning creates a warm, thick tone that mimics a literal human voice weeping. The guitar gently reaches out, pleading for the partner to stay, mirroring the internal struggle of wanting to hold onto love that is slipping away; the lines are deeply melodic, tracing long, arching note-bends that hang in the air.
When Axl admits that even ‘shadows are searching for a place to rest’ the narrative moves out of pure despair.
